Smith, founder of Toby’s Estate, is a passionate Roaster,
Barista and Coffee Artisan. Over 15 years ago Toby traded
in a lucrative career as a lawyer to follow his heart
and venture to some of the world’s most remote regions
to discover all there was to know about his first love
- coffee. While living within the communities, Toby
experienced firsthand how these families had dedicated
their lives, and a lot of hard manual labour to growing
exquisite coffee. Inspired by his new purpose, and
the deep respect for the people that took him in, Toby
returned home and got to work perfecting the art and science
of roasting coffee from his mum's garage.
He spent the next 12 years sharing what he had learnt with a team of passionate coffee enthusiasts, opened several signatures cafes, and built a loyal network of over 600 independent cafes who serve Toby’s Estate coffee exclusively.
S.E.E (Social, Ethical and Environmental) is a philosophy that Toby’s Estate endeavour to apply to all their trade practices. That ensures that they strive to engage with ethical growers, producers and local exporters.
